The ball at Netherfield was yesterday, so I shall give an account on the events that occurred.

The beginning was most pleasing. Netherfield has an extensive library, and I had the opportunity to view it. Yet, when it came time for me to show my great musical talent, I was asked to stop by my father after only two songs! I do not understand. Why does no one appreciate my constant efforts?

I shall simply keep practicing to improve my talent.

Later at the ball, I was asked a question by Mr. Collins in front of a few others. I was delighted and had so many intelligent thoughts in my mind, but when I tried to speak no sounds came forth from my mouth. I was filled with shame.

Why am I ridiculed for having no talents save reading? Women have to be proficient in so many subjects. Why is excellency in one subject not good enough?
